Safe Driving Tips

Safe Driving Tips

Drivers must be responsible while driving a vehicle. Here are some tips to all drivers as safety is always a priority.

While driving, it is essential to stay focused. Even slight distraction may lead to an accident. Do not text, rock out on loud music, don’t argue with children in the back seat, have pets jumping around in the vehicle, etc. Practice defensive driving, buckle up and stay at safe speeds for the road and traffic conditions.

Defensive Driving

Always drive defensively. Defensive driving is safe driving. Never assume that other drivers will follow road rules. Expect the unexpected. Not everyone on the road is a responsible driver. Follow the 2-second rule, driving two seconds behind the vehicle in front of you, and in bad weather, make it a 4-second rule. Always check your blind spot before changing lanes, and be sure to have your blinker on when changing lanes.

Plan Ahead

Never rush when getting from one destination to another. Allow yourself plenty of time in your trip schedule. Stop driving when you find yourself getting tired. Taking breaks during your trip is important as it helps to keep you alert. Stop to eat, make phone calls, etc. Always have your mirrors, seat, and controls adjusted before starting the vehicle.

Safety is essential when behind the wheel. Do not get behind the wheel unless you are focused and sober. Be sure that all children have proper restraints, as well as animals and cargo. Secure everything. Have any essential items like toll fee, garage pass, etc. within easy reach, and be sure that you and all passengers are buckled up before starting the vehicle.

Driving with Children

Children can be a distraction. Be sure that you have plenty of activities for the children so that you can concentrate on the road. Have puzzles and travel games, as well as snacks and beverages.

Don’t Drive When You Feel Tired

When you feel tired, pull off the road. Staying behind the wheel when you are tired is jeopardizing your own safety, that of your co- passengers and other drivers.
